Shopping for Lactose Free food

When shopping for food there is always the obvious foods to NOT buy such as milk, cheese, yoghurt's, butter/margarines ect . . However not all foods containing milk / lactose are so obvious. Some of the most popular foods containing lactose / milk are;
-Bread and other baked goods
-Non-dairy and whipped creamers
-Drink mixes and breakfast drinks
-Salad Dressings
-Lunch meats and hot dogs
-Breakfast cereals
-sweets, biscuits and snacks
-soups
-Mixes for pancakes, biscuits, cakes and cookies
-Sugar substitutes
-Instant coffee and cocoa mixes
-Instant mashed potatoes and French fries
-Pie crusts and Pie fillings
-Pudding mixes
-Gravy granuals

When shopping for food ALWAYS read the food labels. It's important to look not only for milk and lactose among the contents, but also for such terms as whey, curds, buttermilk, malted milk, milk by-products, dry milk solids, non-fat dry milk powder, sour cream and sweet cream, all of which contain Lactose.
